208TCG: Card Game Directory

208TCG is a directory for trading card players in the Boise area. It answers three questions: where can I buy cards, when is the next card show, and where is the nearest Pokémon vending machine. It’s my own project, built because that information lived in scattered social posts.

What I built

• Stores. A map and a searchable list side by side. Each store card shows an open or closed badge, hours and the games it carries, such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon TCG and Lorcana.
• Events. A calendar of card shows and conventions across the valley, from Boise to Nampa, with a date badge, hours, venue and entry fee on every card.
• Vending machines. A second map for card vending units, with open or closed status, hours and a directions link.
• Newsletter. A signup for local card show news, with a plain promise on the form: no spam, and no selling your info.

Design approach

The interface is 8-bit on purpose. Press Start 2P and DotGothic16 type, thick black borders and hard offset shadows give it the feel of a cabinet menu. Each section has its own color: blue for stores, green for events and pink for vending. You always know which map you’re on.
